I have always loved Bluegrass music and especially the banjo. However, I am not a
Bluegrass musician. This song began to formulate inside of my head after the holidays. While I washed my great grandmothers wooden, handmade, rolling pin that was crafted by my great grandfather. As I put her away in the drawer, a tune started to float into my head but I didn't think much about it until my head hit the pillow. All at once, I heard three part harmony singing, "Rollin' Pin, Rollin' Pin." After a bit of convincing, I got up, grabbed my phone, walked to the closet, and sang what became the chorus into my iPhone. From that day forward I began writing "Rollin' Pin." The first verse and chorus came relatively easily but the second verse was a different story. I worked months and researched, you guessed it, rolling pins. It was an interesting adventure and I learned so much about these forgotten kitchen tools. I was fascinated reading about the variety of rolling pins. One fun fact is that rolling pins were custom made for women and were often received as coveted gifts. Some songs unfold quickly and with others it's a waiting game; this song definitely put me through my paces. "Rollin' Pin" gave me a challenge with words and rhyme and a determination to keep rewriting until it felt right to me.
I'm extremely happy with the way she turned out. Thank you Reid for bringing what was in my head to life. I love you so! I hope you tap your toes or do a little jig when you hear "Rollin' Pin." This song is dedicated to my brother, Darrell Glidewell, who has been known to tirelessly research our family tree.
This one is for you brother! ❤️
Thanks again, Gina for another song that stirs our emotions, tugs at our heart strings and tells a story that allows us to remember less stressful times! It is always so entertaining to experience your incredible talents! Keep up the writing and singing, we need all the positive experiences possible at this time in our history! Love and best wishes.
